Djibouti

It is a small country located in Eastern Africa bordered with Ethiopia (west), Eritrea (north), Somaliland (southeast) and Gulf of Aden. This small is divided into five regions and one city. On June 27, 1977, the republic of Djibouti had achieved its independence from France. French, Somali, Afar and Arabic are the languages used in Djibouti.

Thousand of years back, Djibouti traded skin and hides to India, Egypt and China and on the behalf of hides and skin, these countries supply spices and perfumes to Djibouti. Major population (about 94 %) comprises Muslims in Djibouti, which follows Islam religion.There are many sacred places which were declared as Holy places. For instance, several tombs of former leaders considered as holy sites. It is a semi-presidential republic country, with all the executive and major authority in the central government.

Nearly two-third of the population resides in capital city and remainders one-third are nomadic. Unemployment and illiteracy are the major problem in this country. Today, more then 50 % of the population is still unemployed. There were only 282,000 people employed in 2000. Country also has limited number of natural resources and has few light industries. Country is still burgeoning and in its state of developing. Many companies and firms are still in their nascent form and trying to establish in international market. Djibouti is one of the members in Arab League, Organization of African Unity (OAU) and Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).
