A person guilty of committing a crime is called a criminal. The word criminal can be used both as a noun and an adjective in English, depending on the sentence in which it is used.

Criminals possess immensely complex minds, and many researchers have spent numerous hours figuring them out. Most notorious criminals tend to have extremely quick reflexes and an intelligent brain capable of analyzing any case and formulating fundamentally brilliant plans. These characteristics are essential if they are to be always one step ahead of the law. They are paranoid, because life as a criminal is dangerous and there is no room for lethargic individuals in the industry. Because of this, crime has always been an interesting theme for films and books alike. The Godfather, written by Mario Puzo and converted into a movie directed by Francis Coppola is a timeless classic. It featured famous actors Marlon Brando and Al Pacino playing the roles of Don and Michael Corleone respectively. The plot is an extremely intriguing one, and keeps you guessing and wondering about what is to happen next .There have also been various television shows which deal with criminal cases- for example the Crime Investigation Scene ( CSI) series.

Infamous criminals in history include Al Capone, Harold Kelly and the mysterious Jack the Ripper, who continues to puzzle detectives all over the world even a century after his crimes were committed.
